Let’s be real, no one wanted to start 2022 this way. Our multi-faced best friend is back again with yet another variant. We’ve watched COVID-19 cases escalate yet again, and with many cities returning back to partial lockdowns, it's safe to say we all need a couple of distractions. Here’s a list of socially-distanced activities (A.K.A. ways to stay sane and social while isolated) for the group chat!
1. Presentation Night
The TikTok trending activity is a fun, mess-free way to laugh at and with everyone. From PowerPoints about which My Little Pony resonates best with each member of the friend group to which rom-com best describes you, it almost always proves to be a night of ever ending giggles, and sometimes maybe a few tears and catfights. (What can I say, it can get a bit too real sometimes). Keeping the themes secret makes it all the more interesting!

2. Nostalgia Night
Indulge in one of my favourite activities- watching the first and last episodes of your favourite Disney and Nickelodeon shows! With the abundant number of group streaming services, it’s almost like you’re watching it altogether. Keep some popcorn, tissues and candy ready for an epic trip down memory lane! (Warning- this can and probably will be extremely tear-inducing)
3. Group Workouts
You have every right to be sceptical, when did online physical education ever work out for anyone? Don’t worry, it’s a lot more fun when you do it with only friends. Whether you follow along with a Zumba workout together on Zoom or gather at a local park, or on the terrace of your building, a workout is such a perfect way to naturally release endorphins and shake off the lockdown blues.

4. Smoothie Sessions
Don’t make that face, smoothies can be delicious okay. Draw up a list of easily available smoothie ingredients, and keep them ready to go. It’s like your own (usually) mess-free mini virtual Master Chef. We recommend using a plastic sheet to shield your device if you’re prone to making a mess. For those challenged in the kitchen, it’s usually even funnier to keep the fruits unpeeled and whole, your friends will have a ball watching you follow a WikiHow page on how to successfully core and slice an apple.

5. Shine and Dine
This is so simple, but definitely the most fun. Essentially, everyone orders in from the same restaurant, so it’s almost as though you’re all sharing a meal. Make a theme, and everyone dresses up accordingly- whether it’s Beach Chic and Japanese food or Winter Formal and Lebanese! Set up your television or your laptop with Zoom or Google Meet or FaceTime, and show off your fabulous fits while you enjoy some fantastic food.
It’s no doubt that isolation takes a toll on all of us, some more than others. Here’s a gentle reminder to check on your friends, your family, and yourself. We’ve linked a few resources down below, feel free to leave more in our comments or in our Hi Society conversation streams.
